Mitavite Partner Rider:
Harvey is an up and coming dressage rider who is determined that living in Rockhampton will not hamper his career. From a family of cattle farmers, Harvey is an ambitious and talented rider and coach, providing regular lessons to riders around Rockhampton. We are looking forward to following his career in years to come.
Introduce your horses:
Real Hit (Really) - Warmblood Stallion: Really is a 5 yr old stallion who I broke in, in the november of 2012. He has lightly competed but is the most trainable horses around. For a stallion he is super lazy and laid back but loves to get on the truck and go places.
Bloomfield Sorrento ( Roger) - Warmblood Gelding: Roger is a 7 yr old gelding again I broke in when he was three and is a very athletic and playful horse. He has a great work ethic but is always very aware of his surroundings. Roger is currently competing Elementary/ Medium and hopefully keeps progressing through the grades.
Where did your love of horse-riding begin and when did you get started within your discipline?
I grew up on a cattle property and we always worked with horses, my whole family rides and I followed suit. I competed in pony club sporting/campdraft until I was 14 when I decided I wanted to go eventing. I only made the change from eventing to straight dressage in 2012 after coming back from training with Steffen Peters in the USA.
Did you have any horse-riding role-models as a beginner rider?
I didn't really idolise any person, I was lucky where I grew up there are a lot of good horsemen who taught great basics of how to work with your horse. I think it was the Olympic Gold medal for Australia in the eventing at Sydney Olympics that turned me towards the equestrian style of riding. Since then I have worked for some of very accomplished and talented people who all have played a part in my riding.
What have been some of your greatest achievements within your discipline?
Watch this space!
What are your aspirations for your riding career? Where do you see yourself in the future?
I would like to ride/train at the best of my ability, I think having the ability to bring out the best in each horse and be competitive at a high level is my ultimate goal.
Which Mitavite feeds and/or supplements do you use?
All of my horses are on Xtra Cool with chaff and hay. The competition horses and horses that are getting fair amounts of work are on Munga also. I do also feed the Re-Lyte, as I live in a hot climate where they do sweat a lot. I think it is important to make sure they are staying hydrated. I have found that my horses are looking great and I have people commenting on how great they are looking.
What is your all-time favourite Mitavite product and why?
I really do like the Munga! It puts the weight on the horses they look great, have dapples and their temperament doesn't change.
What has your experience as a Mitavite Partner Rider been like?
My experience as a partner rider is great. I'm able to feed my horses with proven feed that is best for the well being and performance of my horses and I'm able to contact nutritionists with any queries that I may have. I do a reasonable amount of teaching and it is great to be able to stand behind a product that has a feed to suit all situations and help riders get their horse looking and feeling at its best. I feel privileged to be supported by a company who not only is about providing great feed but go out of its way to arm people with the knowledge so they are able to make informed decisions to best look after their horses.
Do you have any advice for beginner / aspiring riders?
Work hard! Like any industry to get a horse to the big comps takes a lot of management and detail which takes time and dedication. If you work hard, be open minded and willing to learn you will be able to take on this sport.
